Negotiation Success 3: Brainstorming Expansive Solutions

Use calculator to show CLE credit for your state.

In this program, lawyers look at how breakdowns in communication, effectiveness, and health can be caused by intense work demands and stress. Lawyers learn the neurophysiology of stress, together with simple techniques to reduce anxiety and regain clarity.

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the causes of anxiety, a completely self-induced emotion.
  • Discover very simple techniques for decreasing anxiety and increasing clarity, effectiveness and well-being.

These short courses build on sections from our highly regarded courses "The Trusted Lawyer" and "The Persuasive Lawyer." (The Basis of Influence Series covers additional new material, but there is some overlap and review.) Each short course stands alone, so you can can one or take them all!

Segment 1: 60 minutes   Finding Common Ground
Negotiations become stuck when neither side is willing to consider options which address the needs of all. In this section lawyers learn ways to increase cooperation and build rapport toward meeting mutual objectives.
Segment 2: 60 minutes   Brainstorming for Mutual Gain
When negotiations reach a standstill, we often abandon attempts to approach the situation with a fresh perspective. Instead, we tend to become entrenched in the virtues of our side’s positions and principles. This section models an approach to developing proposals that will minimize defensive responses and increase foundations for achieving more of our clients’ objectives.
